Non-violent Resistance – NVR

What is NVR

The origins of NVR are captured in the politically motivated non-violent resistance of leaders such as Gandhi and Mandela, who chose to resist the machinery of an oppressive state through passive resistance rather than violence. Haim Omer has applied this approach into a programme to help parents manage some of their child/children’s really difficult behaviours.  Frequently, children who exhibit such behaviours are highly anxious and many have a neurodivergent diagnosis.  When a child’s behaviour is extreme it can lead parents to feel powerless and helpless.

The NVR parenting approach can help parents to:

  • Regain their parental authority

  • Rebalance the power relationship in the family

  • Reconnect with their child in a loving way

The NVR parenting approach

Acknowledges that when parents are struggling with a child’s behaviour they can feel ashamed, embarrassed or blamed all of which can be incredibly isolating for them and deepen their sense of despair.  NVR acknowledges that parents who want to make a change are devoted parents by dint of wanting to support their child, and the NVR techniques will help parents to effect those changes; lessen their isolation and help them to accept what good parents they are.

I will support you to work through this approach in order to implement the changes that you want.
